Education! Education! Education!

In the past i decided to take the business route to lead me to a successful career. This course was attended at Banff and Buchan College of further education. This course included such subjects as E-Commerce, wages, accounts, management skills, communicational skills, Economics, problem solving & law. The time i spent on this i still see as valuable time spent although i did not decide to go down that path. The reason for this is, i believe at that moment in time i was not at the right maturity level and hadn’t experienced enough to successfully pass this course at a higher level such as a degree. This course has still taught me valuable skills that i will be able to use at a later stage in my life, skills that i may not have gained by heading straight into the direction i have decided to take now.

The course i am presently Studying is NC Computing & Digital Media. I chose this course due to the fact i love working with computers and i have always had a good basic knowledge or them. i chose to study this course at Banff & Buchan College of further education for the reason it was a familiar place to me since i had been there for 2 years previous to this course. The course involves subjects such as your basic communications and maths as well as your more detailed subjects like Web Design, Hardware, Animation, Software Development and Cisco. Due to this course being at a low level of learning it covers a wide range of the Computing criteria. This will get stricter as time progresses and will end up in one part of the computing criteria.

The near future. I hope to be accepted into a HND Software Development course at Aberdeen College. The reasons for me picking this as the course i want to proceed into is due to the fact that it hold the most subjects i feel interested in, as well as my ability to gain the qualification at the end of this two year course. The reasons for me choosing to do this course at Aberdeen instead of Fraserburgh is because i feel i am at that age where i need to experience living away from home and to have the chance to meet new people that are from a different community as myself.

University. After i have completed a HND which i hope to pass, i would like to be considered for university to attend a course in computer science. I hope to gain a degree out of this. The place of study i have chosen for this is Edinburgh University. The reason for this is for the experience of being out in the world by me to see how well i would cope.

What have I been up to?

Well I'm spending more or less all my time in Aberdeen - Partying, shopping, hotels, cinema, starbucks & kfc :). Iv recently taken an obsession to going to the cinema over the past few months, seeing all the new releases. Most recent being Alice in Wonderland, which although was not as I expected, was excellent all the same. more details on that below. :)

Alice in Wonderland 3D

Only loosely based on Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass, Tim Burton’s highly-anticipated, live-action/CGI hybrid take on Alice is the first major 3-D release since Avatar. The film also reunites Burton with actor Johnny Depp for the seventh time.

What the critics like: The comedic performances by many of the supporting actors — like Michael Sheen, Matt Lucas and Stephen Fry — are drawing praise from a number of reviewers, as is Helena Bonham Carter’s scene-stealing turn as the Red Queen. Some critics also like a portion of the film’s CGI animation — in fact, the Hollywood Reporter calls the film "gorgeous." Roger Ebert also admires the look of the film, and recommends seeing it in 2-D, where the images will be "brighter and more colorful." Some critics feel that the material and Burton’s imagination make for a good match.

What they don’t like: Wasikowska’s performance — though not bad — is unable to overcome her character’s barely-there presence. Many critics aren’t happy with the 3-D treatment — which can be distracting and (literally) pales in comparison to films like Avatar — and not everyone is fond of the look of the film. (The New York Times, for example, calls it "garish.") Depp’s performance also is drawing rare criticism; the New York Observer’s Christopher Rosen observes that "he acts like even being on set was a chore," and Time Out New York labels Depp’s Mad Hatter "unmemorable." The story is a major problem for a number of reviewers, who felt that Burton (or Disney) tried too hard to make the film like a Lord of the Rings or Narnia movie (some even compared it to a videogame or Dungeons & Dragons). In addition to strongly disapproving of the battle-heavy third act, many critics find the first act’s pre-Wonderland/Underland scenes (centering on Alice’s engagement party) "tedious" (Los Angeles Times) or "unbearable, leaden and doomy and generically plotted" (Austin Chronicle). And the Wall Street Journal’s Joe Morgenstern speaks for several critics when he finds the movie surprisingly conventional for a Burton film; the A.V. Club similarly derides the film as "frustratingly impersonal."
